MAF

Mission Aviation Fellowship is a Christian organisation. Our mission is to operate light aircraft in remote places where flying is not a luxury, but a real lifeline.

Every three minutes one of our planes takes off or lands somewhere in the world. On board are dedicated teams bringing medical care, supplies and Christian hope to communities struggling to survive amidst poverty, conflict or natural disaster. Flying across deserts, jungles, swamps and mountains, we reach places that might otherwise remain cut-off because of impassable or non-existent roads.

MAF was founded towards the end of WWII by a group of international airmen, one of whom was Stuart King (President Emeritus and still active in the organisation today), all determined to use their skills to help people in deepest need. The first MAF passenger flight landed at a jungle airstrip in Mexico in 1946.

Today MAF is a worldwide partnership operating over 120 aircraft from bases in more than 30 countries. Serving over 2,500 destinations, we help enable aid and development agencies, missions, national churches and other local groups bring relief and healing for body, mind and spirit.

MAF is a UK registered charity and our overseas operational work and support services are funded by voluntary donations. By supporting us, you are supporting people in need around the world.

Home Mission

Home Mission is the Baptist Family sharing together to enable mission throughout Great Britain.

First and foremost, the Baptist Union of Great Britain exists to share God's mission. The Baptist family funds and supports mission both locally and nationally. The finance for this comes through Home Mission.

All churches in membership of the Baptist Union of Great Britain have the opportunity to be a recipient of the many and varied materials and services provided by Home Mission.

Home Mission helps churches in strategic mission situations, that could not have otherwise afford a minister, to have one. It funds chaplains working in education and industry. It supports evangelists and missioners. Associations are financed by Home Mission. It also provides materials, help and advice from the national resource at Didcot.

By sharing together, we enable the spread of the Gospel and the growth of the Church and by working together and pooling our resources, we can achieve so much more.

Your support can make a world of difference - it enables the Baptist Union to help others across the country. As a member of the Baptist family, Home Mission has got everything to do with you! And with God's work!

Tearfund

'In His name the nations will put their hope'. Matthew 21 v 12

"We want to see every form of poverty - spiritual, physical, economic, psychological and social - melting away in the presence of Jesus." — Dr. Dewi Hughes, Tearfund's Theological Adviser.

From small beginnings in 1968, Tearfund has grown to be a major UK relief and development agency working in 70 of the world's poorest countries.

Tearfund is an organisation motivated by evangelical Christian values and beliefs. Its mission is to work in partnership with the local churches, denominations and para-church organisations that share these beliefs.

Tearfund's support may be in the form of grants, specialist skills and expertise or training of personnel. Resources will be given to countries with the greatest economic need where there is accessibility and the opportunity to transform lives.

Every day, somewhere, people look poverty and suffering in the face. It may be the trauma of conflict, malnutrition, lack of education, unclean water, or the devastation of natural disaster. At UBC, through Tearfund, we are able to give people living in poverty physical help for the here and now, and a hope that goes on for eternity.

BMS World Mission is actively working with personnel, partners and co-operating agencies in over 30 countries worldwide. From the sprawling city of Sao Paulo to tribal groups in northern Thailand, and from Albania to Zimbabwe, BMS works to be culturally sensitive to each place, recognising the individual needs of an area and doing something about it. GLIA

God's Love In Action (GLIA) is a charitable organisation set up by Peter and Lesley Butcher in Dorohoi, a town in the North East of Romania. It has a population of 40,000 with unemployment of 80% and over 50% of the population have no income. Since 1992 Peter and Lesley have been involved with taking aid to Dorohoi on lorries organised by The Romanian Aid Foundation. In 1999 they felt that God was calling them to make a bigger commitment to Romania. Subsequently they sold their house in Horley and with the capital released they had built (opened in May 2002) a centre (Centre of Hope) in which they live and are able to provide food, warmth and comfort for a few hours to people living in cramped, dismal and depressing conditions. During 2009/10 an additional building (The Annex) has been built to provide additional facilities. During 2009 they provided 13,000 meals, 2,500 food bags of basic items, toiletries and basic medication, and over 3,000 showers in the centre for families living in dire situations.

They get many visitors at the centre requesting help with all sorts of things to enable the families to exist. These range from needing water to drink to having a cooker to prepare families meals. The warehouse set up by the Romanian Aid Foundation in Dorohoi meets some of the material needs.

During 2003 a school in Horley raised money to enable a playground to be built behind the centre. This has been fenced in and is used by local schools and kindergartens and at other times is open for general use.

Since Peter's  first visit to UBC in 2004 several folk are giving regularly to GLIA and there is a continuing response for contributions to the appeal for a wide range of items to be sent on the lorries organised by the Romanian Aid Foundation (ROAF).

Thank you for showing God's Love In Action.

Bethany Children's Trust

BCT has a big, big vision that is "to see every child in the world loved, safe, nurtured and free to reach their God-given potential". In order to bring this about the charity supports Christ-centred childcare ministries (mostly smaller ones) around the world with financial and material resources, encouragement and prayer. The trustees decide when and where the help is to be given by listening to God's will and direction. The staff become actively and personally involved by visiting these organisations before and during the time they are being supported, to ensure that the correct type and level of help is provided and to give physical, emotional and spiritual encouragement.

In the UK they visit Christian Churches and school groups etc. to raise awareness of the needs of Children at Risk worldwide and to envision, enable and equip them to act on the children's behalf. Some of the resource aids that are available are BCT prayer diaries, quarterly newsletters, young people's magazines, collecting boxes and numerous ideas for fund raising.

So far BCT has been able to help in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Uganda, Rwanda, South Africa and the Philippines - in all cases there are homeless, orphaned (often because of aids) sick, starving desperate children.

The Malthouse

The Malthouse is a second and third stage residential rehabilitation project for men, run by The Kenward Trust. Roy Adams is the Project manager assisted by his wife Margaret. Volunteers from Uckfield's churches are actively involved in supporting the project.

The recovery programme is continuous and is based around counselling and group work. It aims to prepare men for a lifetime free from alcohol and other drugs. Residents are encouraged to grow in their recovery and leave behind any negative old behaviours.

Each man must be prepared and willing to make far-reaching changes from his former life-style and to co-operate fully with the programme. He must be prepared to take responsibility for his own behaviour and adopt a caring and considerate attitude towards the community.

Residents are expected to be open and honest with other members of the community. They are also encouraged to discuss issues that have caused them distress in the past in a safe environment.

Residents are given the opportunity to take part in educational activities offered by the Malt House and in the community.

The Kenward Trust is a Christian charity and as such residents are initially expected to attend Christian education sessions though church attendance is optional.

The Malthouse also provides a Community Counselling Service for people living in the locality who need counselling for addiction issues, on a sessional basis.

Open Doors

Open Doors came into being in 1955 when a Dutchman, Brother Andrew smuggled Bibles and Christian literature behind the Iron Curtain.  His story, told in his book “God’s Smuggler”, is an exciting read which shows God’s mighty power in action.

The work of Open Doors, encouraging and supporting Christians who are persecuted for their faith, continues today in several areas such as China, South East Asia. Pakistan, the Middle East, Central Asia, Africa and Latin America.

As well as providing Bibles, Christian Literature, teaching aids and tuition to pastors they provide relief aid to situations such as the tsunami in Sri Lanka and the Pakistan earthquake.

“Open Doors is there with a holistic approach in engaging people with the Word of God to encourage and strengthen the church to grow in their respective communities and cultures.”  Open Doors Frontline
